I was looking to purchase a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II lens for a family member.

They are going for about $299 on Amazon and B&H, yet on eBay, we've got Buy-It-Now sellers based in the USA letting these go for between $145 and $190.

http://www.ebay.com …IS+II+Lens&rt=nc&LH_BIN=1 (external link)

Yeah, some are labeled re-manufactured, but many of the listings are claiming new, not opened, not floor samples, not re-manufactured.

And they have high ratings.

Any thoughts? Have you guys bought anything like this off of eBay?

When I normally go there, new Canon products are at most 10-15% less than what one would expect from reputable dealers.

$19 for a 75-300 III? I know it's a crappy lens, but wow, that makes it almost worth buying.. as a paperweight.

Also, is my math completely off or is B&H knocking more than $150 off the price the those lenses?

In August I bought a new 55-250 for $149 shipped. It was a gift for my son & his family ... at that price point it has to be one of the best bang-for-buck Canon lenses.

Nope, it's still overpriced! Well, maybe as a paperweight or knock the optics out and use it to keep your pens and pencils organized on your desk. Or save some money and just get one of these: http://www.ebay.com …27853&hash=item35bfa06d7f (external link) ;)

I bought one brand new a year ago for around $160. Never used it and sold it for $225.

Of course now that the STM version of the lens is available, then the EFS 55-250mm IS II is likely to reduce even further in price.
Same with the EFS 18-55, as it too has been replaced with the STM version.

There is some funny math going on there...

$199.99 - $150 doesn't equal $19 :)

I think you are getting a 15% ($30) discount for bundling, the 150 in addition brings it down to $19.

Supply demand. The older 55-250 lenses were regularly bundled as a cheap add in kits. With the new 55-250 STM lens out and increased quality from this lens that pushes the older version downstream. With a glut in both used supply and possibly new supply prices drop down since it would not command the same "utility" desire from customers vs the STM lens

The 55-250 STM wasn't even announced when this thread was started...
