Brenizers method...

So I want to try it out and I watched a few videos on Brenizers method of photography.. my only question is:

In the video, the guy talks about "locking the focus" when taking all the pictures.. is this same as just focusing on your subject, and when the camera finishes focusing you just put the lens into manual focus mode and take all the pictures like that? (meaning the subject is in focus for all the shots while the background is out of focus)

I was a bit confused about what he was saying.. he was using a Nikon camera and said that he was holding some button which allowed him to lock focus while taking all the pictures...

Also on that note.. what is the best software (on Mac) for stitching the photographs together?

Perhaps he is talking about locking it using something similar to "back button" focusing?

Yep, you just answered your own question. You focus once, and all following shots use the same focus point, because you wouldn't want the camera to re-focus on every shot. For those who use back-button focus this isn't an issue - just don't press the AF button.

ohhk fair enough.. I'l probably try something small first.. like a 9-10 image pano and go from there..

Also any idea whats the best software on mac to put the images together easily? I've heard doing it in photoshop is a pain in the a$$.

Another question.. when I take pics, how much do i overlap one pic over the other?

Microsoft ICE is pretty good, and free. You can't use it for paid gigs, though.

Photoshop is fine. Its just slow. Photo merge is almost as easy as Microsoft ICE. Ice is only for windows.

Microsoft ICE is much better at it than photoshop CS6.

CS6 always leaves a few images out that it doesn't know what to do with and ICE finds them every time. It's one of the best things MS has done in a long time and it is FREE!

I'm assuming any kind of picture adjustments (sharpening/levels,etc​) are done to the final image?!? Or are you suppose to do it before?

You can do it to either all the pre-stitched images, or the final image. I wouldn't do any spot corrections to the individual images, but anything global (exposure, wb, sharpening, contrast, etc...) is fine ... it's especially a good idea to do vignette/distortion correction as well.

The vignette/distortion correction to each image before the stitching makes sense to me. My concern is with the possibility of certain images not matching up because the adjustments being slightly off on certain images before the stitching.

If you shoot in raw and do those conversions as a batch in your converter (ARR or DPP) they will be applied equally.
