What was in the box that you thought my be a D800?

A 35L and battery grip. My mom already ordered the stuff before I told her I wanted a D800 she said if I'm nice I might get something nice for my birthday 2 more months away. But I can't decide if I want that or elimchrim bx500ri kit.

Step up to Elinchrom. You'll be glad you did that instead of another camera.

Why do you want a D800?

You have a nice setup for your 5DIII and for everything you do it's a more than capable camera...

He just wants to be me. ;)

I agree. He doesn't need another body unless he can justify it by getting paid work.

Another body is one thing, but another body from a different brand where he then has to get lenses is even more ridiculous. :p Only you can make that work.

I don't think you'd need the 500's, they are more money plus, you'll rarely ever need them on full power. My 400's that I have are never on full power and they always get the job done. I'd say go for portable heads even though that's really stepping it up, but you can travel with them. I wish I had the money for portable strobes but I would rather also work with natural light as I like it better.

I have the older model 400's

If you can find them I would say get them or the 500's. From what I was told the older generation models are way better then the newer generation.

Cool! I may join you for some CS:S later. I also installed it on my son's ASUS laptop. :p

Mine was good. I just got back from my cousin's house in Durham. She lives right around the corner from SouthPoint Mall. She had a ton of food!

I'm finishing up packing for my trip to Dominican Republic. We leave in the morning and we won't be back till Jan. 2.

Cause I like the versatility of shooting both systems. D800 for landscapes/portraits which I am doing quite a bit recently. And the 5D for the sports

Yeah that's what I'm think right now.

The new 500s have the built in skyport. I coul go with the 250s but they are only like 100 cheaper

But is that small gain in versatility really worth the thousands of dollars you need to invest into the system? Most would say no.
