of course, have it on manual mode ;)

set your timer for 2 secs and slow down your shutter speed depending on the available light and how much movement you would like to have in your picture. the longer the shutter, the more smooth and silky the water and the sky movements will be. and of course, adjust the exposure to your liking.

lets see some pics! :p

I shall! I was actually asking because we had a blackout the other day and the stars were extra pretty. Except I couldn't figure out how to do it. I set it to bulb and held onto the button for a while hahahaha. Then I got smart and used a rubber band and a clip to press it down for me

I was showing her the product!
All she has to do is take the product number (RS-80N3 for D bodies, RS-60E3 for the 60D and Rebel series), put it in eBay, and select 'Price + Shipping: Lowest First' and 'Buy it Now'. 'US only' is optional. She could also try 'Canon Shutter', or 'Canon Shutter Release' (Saw results for $3 or so, probably in China, but if you aren't in a hurry...)

Or, if she wants intervalometers (Which allow you to take a picture once every so often for time lapses) she should put in 'TC80N3', 'Canon Intervalometer' or 'Canon Timer'.
(Around $15, If I remember right. Been a while.)

But no, she should not look for Canon brand. They are way overpriced, and she will save herself hundreds. I don't buy Canon batteries either, but I make sure the knock-offs are knock-offs, and not counterfeit, and I make sure they have plenty of MAH's. LP-E6's cost $15, LP-E8's and E5's are $6-8 a piece, if I recall right.
I have a ton of LP-E5's, as I had the XS and T1i. We bought an XSi body later off a member here, as well, so we had three that took those. I'd have been broke if I had tried to afford OEM batteries, and the knockoffs worked just as well, I'd say.

The XS was my first camera, and it was a great first one. The T1i was next, and it can almost burst into flames, for all I care.

Sweet, thanks! I will check that out, are the cheapest ones settable for time? Or do you just have to sit and hold onto the button?

As I stated (just before DVance, actually), most--if not all--of the wired generic remotes out there have a buttonlock feature. This allows you to keep the button pressed until you see fit to release it.

Now, if programmable is what you want, then you'd do well to look into something like this:

Depending on the body you're using, you may need the other type of plug (rebels). Setting your exposure for up to 100 hours should be enough for you, correct? Plus it's on sale. I think I paid $30 for mine in the forums some time ago.

Even with my limited knowledge of the female psyche---even I know they don't like to be told they NEED to do anything... especially when it's about losing weight :p Double-whammy!! :p

Slightly too big, slightly too thin, I'm okay with either :D

Ouch! Scathing opinion column on the Armstrong interview:

Honestly, unless he was bawling tears the whole way through, there was just no coming out of this smelling of roses.
