Oh and you want live view, mirror lock up, manual focus, turn off IS if your lens has IS (so the motor isn't whirring away). Basically any possible movement.

Excuse my ignorance (haha) for asking, but how do you do all of that? I know how to do live view and mf, but I'm not sure about the mirror lock up and whatever IS is... :/

ALSO GUYS I WANTED TO KNOW SOMETHING:

How do you download and use PS actions? I haven't had time to really look through tutorials but I figured you all would know.

(I have Photoshop Elements 6, in case that's important info to know. And yes, this is a noob question)

download is not a problem, you just need to find them :P using them I do not know, it's something I wanted to try but never really had time to play.

this came up after a quick search.

Lightroom 4, for that photo, but I usually add some color masks in Adobe Photoshop Elements 6. I've been playing around a lot with colors and exposure :D

Seriously...haha, and I got a few but I kind of lost patience. The power also came back after 10 minutes

This is why God invented UPSes.

IS = image stabilizer. dont think you have it on any of your lens so you're ok.

mirror lock up can be done in the menu part of your camera.

The difference between Live View and Mirror Lock up, is that you can focus manually (and/or automatically) with live view, but you can't with mirror lock up. But it will keep your sensor active, so it can warm up and give extra noise, and eat up battery power.

If you were to use a telephoto lens, you hook up the lens to the tripod, so with live view, you still get that tiny mirror/shutter movement which could cause a minute vibration / amplify at slow speed camera shots.

IS is image stabiliser. Lenses will have a tiny motor whirring away to "stabilise a photo" even if there isn't anything to stabilise, it is best to turn it off (button on the side of the lens).

Owned by this radio station: http://www.mixfm.com/listen/ (external link)

They have many versions, some sung by professionals; and a lot sung by listeners/amateurs. Everything from old folks squeaking one out to fully orchestrated in four-part harmony.

And if you think me sing the Friday song would be weird, you should hear my impression of Heinrich Himmler singing "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town."

Here, Natalie:
Perseids Meteor shower, August 11, 2012 (My birthday)
For some reason, the meteor appears jagged on some monitors; I am assuming it is web compression. Maybe I should convert to 350dpi and save again.
Caught this meteor right in the Milky Way.
5D Mark II, 17-40L, 30 second exposure, ISO 3200, f4.
I did an edit on this one that I really like better than the original. just tweaked light and color, and dodged the Milky Way in Photoshop Elements 10.

The original:

I wonder if the video editors on The Titanic ever went, "Sorry, I can't right now. I'm busy synching the Titanic..."

Same night, facing the exact opposite direction:
Canon EOS 5D Mark II, 17-40L at 17mm, f4, 30 seconds, ISO 3200,
and I am 99% certain that this is straight from the camera.
