The only canon lens I currently have that I would keep is the 40mm. Everything else would be sold even if I went to a 5DIII, and the 580EXIIs are going for nearly what I paid for it. . And its' several hundred dollars cheaper, that goes a long way.

You'd sell an L, while moving to a 5D3? Looks to me, from your gear list, like you'd be better off staying with Canon and *adding* the 5D3 to your collection. You've only got one lens that couldn't do double duty.

The Nikon rebates were extended til the end of the month....no rush now.

But I want to upgrade the 70-200 F4 IS to a 2.8 II. In fact I already have a friend who is going to buy it. The 28 1.8 isn't a bad lens, but it would be replaced by a Sigma 35 1.4 in the near future.

And there's really no reason for me to keep the 7D right now with a 5DIII.


Oh and the 5DIII still isn't entirely out of the question... I've been keeping an eye on used bodies, and if one pops up for the right price I just might have to jump on it.

Reach? Versatility? You've been sipping the JD Kool-Aid too heavily. Gonna have to replace your flash, too, and take a loss on that as well.

Nah. He just needs to take a hard look at his budget. Replace absolutely everything, or sell one lens and incrementally add to his current collection. Expose right and the hypothetical Nikon advantage disappears.
