Anyone had a problem with the canon battery grip , the camera works fine with the battery in the camera but wont work when the grip is fitted with either the 2 in the grip or the AA's in the grip .

how tight are you screwing in the grip, sometimes when you make it too tight it affects the connection, I only make mine as tight as I can go using the thumb, back yours off a bit it might help.

If it's a third party grip, check that the input dial on grip is not in between the click stops as this can also affect the operation.

Also check the grip on/off switch you might not have fully selected one or the other

Correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't the battery grip have an on/off switch?

The on/off only for the switches on the grip.
It looks like no power at all when the OP inserted the grip.
I don't have any issue with mine, maybe it needs replacement.

This is the first time I've heard of a dead grip.

I presume you're just going to send one (or both) back for a replacement then? I think I'd just send the grip back first of all so you still have the camera, but I guess it's hard to determine which is at fault :(

When I bought a grip for my 400D, several years ago, the first one I got was broken. Genuine Canon, but it didn't work out of the box. No power to the camera, but it drained the battery/batteries pretty quickly. Quick enough for the grip to become noticeably warm.

I've got a 3rd party grip which works perfectly, suppose you've got a defective part somewhere. I'd bet that a repair shop would want the grip and body together because there could be a problem with the contacts in the body too.

Exactly what happened to me. I tightened it and haven't had a problem since.
