This is my dad's dog, Maxie. I've now adopted her as he can no longer take care of her or himself. The good news out of all this is I have a terrific dog, and we visit him regularly at the nursing home, keeping their connection going.

She is a Boxer mix. I'm thinking the other part might be Rottweiler, but not totally sure. She is a total sweetheart. Here, she seems to be suffering as my model. A bit later, a treat set her straight.

she looks like a very sweet dog.. i am happy to hear you taken her into your home.. i think its wonderful you get to take her to go 'visit' her papa in the rest home. i can image her making the visits so much meaning for your dad and put a smile on his face..

Thx, she's the most popular "person", there in my dad's section. The staff and residents continually call out her name and offer her a friendly tug on the ear. I make it clear to the staff that she is my dad's dog. Despite his current condition, he functioned just like the rest of us. He and his dog.

It's wonderful to take her up to a wheelchair bound resident, who has lost most their social function, and watch them guide their fingers tenderly over her fur and pat her head. There remains a connection and so too a quality of life. Maybe not yours or mine, but something.

She does have a nemesis there...the polished linoleum floors in the hallways. She can't seem to find a grip and behaves much like any novice ice skater would on ice. I'm thinking either booties or possibly giving her paws a quick rub of violin rosin, if it isn't caustic. Thoughts?

I would try to booties first... putting anything on the paws might be ok.. but if she licks them for any reason it may not be good for her? they even might have some non-slick stuff for dogs? you could ask the vet?

Love the pic , but i think it's awesome that you take her to see your dad at the home.
I'm sure it means so much to him , and for all the other people there .
Animals can do more for people then we could ever do . I think anyway .
Good on you , keep up the good work my friend.
Kevin

Check the hair b/w the pads and make sure it is short. Long hair here can induce sliding on polished floors. Next, go for the booties if she will tolerate them. Booties may make her walk funny.

Great shot.

This time with the tree for a background. I removed her harness to show off her beautiful chest patch, put the reflector in place, and took my position, belly-flopped on the kitchen floor, some 12 feet away, set up the camera, look through the viewfinder, and she begins shuddering in fear, scared of the big lens pointing at her, is my guess. So I get up from the floor, climb over and let her sniff the camera, give her a milk bone, and finally she relaxes. Who knew dog models could be this temperamental?

It took me all kinds of squeaks and squawks to get her ears to show some interest.

Beautiful dog Kevan!! And a lovely portrait. You should frame that one for your Dad, he'll love looking at it throughout his day. My Dad is 98 (99 in a few days) and in a Home, he has dymentia. We put up a bristol board with lots of family pix... he calls it his bible and loves it :)

Lovely dog! It's great that you are taking care of her. Our Maltese Rescue receives numbers of dogs each year from persons who have either passed away or cannot care for the little dogs. I hope people make some plans for the care of their animals when they can no longer do it themselves from some reason...

Despite all appearances...you're viewing an animal totally enjoying a good frolic on the beach. She's downright apoplectic in happiness..squirming, bouncing and jumping so much it was difficult to capture a normal stride.
