OK, so I just grabbed PS6. I have absolutely no idea how to do a damn thing with it yet. One thing I was trying to do was add plugins. I downloaded the zip, extracted, copied the files & put them into the plugins folder. When I start PS, they do not show in the filters menu at all.

Any help? I even watched a YT video & did it exactly like they said, to no avail.

Thanks,

~Ace

Try this:

  • Select: Edit --> Preferences --> Plugins
  • Click the "additional plugins" checkbox
  • The "browse for folder" dialog should open
  • Select the folder where your plugin is installed
  • restart CS6 and you should be good

Thanks. I just tried it & no luck. I actually tried that way yesterday, too. So here's a question...When I unzip a file, a bunch of files show up, (here is a screenshot of an unzipped file), Is this what they should look like?:

So I just copied all of those & pasted them in the plugins folder, no luck. I also tried what you recommended and set the additional folder to that folder, no luck.

Grrrr!!!

OK, when I click on the start button, CS6 is listed as a new program, and so is Adobe Bridge CS6, Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit CS6, and Adobe Extension Manager CS6. When I opened the Extension Manager, this is what it looks like, do I drag them here? (Sorry for the crappy pic)

Taking a guess at what is going on here, those plugins are for 32 bit windows based on the file name I see there and you are using a 64 bit windows operating system? 64 bit Photoshop?

plugins differ from extensions so that Extension Manager is not the right direction.

my guess is those plugins need some sort of master program or framework in order to execute, none of them are .exe files. I could be completely wrong here but I don't see how a windows OS could execute them...

What plug-ins are you trying to install, are they 32bit or 64bit plug-in versions, are they 3rd party plug-ins and did you follow the installation directions from the manufacturer?

Even if you install an incompatible plug-in correctly, it will not work. For example, if you are running a 64bit version of PS and the plug-in is not compatible with it (incompatibility in CS6 is not surprising) then it will typically not work. One thing you can try is to start PSCS6 in 32bit mode and see if the properly installed plug-ins show up in 32bit mode - this will give you some insight into the problem of why the plug-ins are not available - the Extension Manager is not what you should be using here.

Try starting PS in 32bit and see if that solve your issues. CS6 changed its plug-in structure slightly, so make sure your plug-ins are in the correct location.

Thanks! I'm at work now, so I have to wait until later to mess with it. I am running a 32-bit machine.

I downloaded plugins from Adobe, and they were 32 bit, same as my PC. I also tried a 3rd party set, same result. This is frustrating, grrr!

I use PS7 and a major plug-in for me is my sharpening software. This does not use the filters folder, instead I go to File > Automate.

So just possibly theres nothing at all wrong except that you are looking in the wrong place?
