I took some fortuitous shots of Jupiter last night (fortuitous in the sense of unplanned - just noticed that it was near the full moon, so went and got my camera). I haven't processed them yet, but a quick look showed them to be pretty soft and indistinct.

Part of that is me (I found it hard to focus), part is the gear that I am using - 600D, Tamron SP 500 mirror with the corresponding 2x TC.

Even with that equivalent 1600mm, Jupiter was still quite small. Which brings me to my question - what sort of gear would you use to get a decent shot of Jupiter?

Cheers, Damien

I use a telescope and a couple of 2x Barlow eyepieces to get me somewhere around 4500mm.
