I like the candid quality of it. It's a little OOF but it still could be a keeper. Maybe even out the color in his cheeks.

Neat shot.

Great shot - I would not say it is OOF as much as a shallow depth of field...works for me.
I would however crop half the distance between his head and the top and the same amount on the right

I love this shot because of his expression and beautiful color that shows in his eyes. Nice.

I think it's a terrific shot. I ran it through Portrait Professional to fix the redness on his cheeks and chin and to get his skin a little more uniform. I also cropped it a little tighter. What do you think?

I like the original better, both seem to have a green tinge to them on my calibrated monitor, the PP version looks too plastic....

Thanks for the edit bob. I really like the crop but the skin tone looks really off on my monitor (yellow tint and processed looking). I should have mentioned that I processed this for printing and it's looking great in that format -- and my printers colors are abit off unfortunately. I was mainly concerned about the composition and shallow DOF.

You're right about the colors. I did a very quick edit last night and didn't pay much attention to the color. As for the "processed looking", the only adjustment made in Portrait Professional, was adjusting the "Imperfections" slider to 15. Everything else was set to 0. This adjustment got rid of the red splotches on his face.

Here's another edit where I took a little more time with the colors. Is this one any better? I thought it looked better by eliminating the warm tint.

Irrespective of the colours I like the portraiture. What I mean is Im drawn to eyes that look rather sad as though he has been told off for some reason.

I think that his neck is strained due to him turning to look at the camera, It may be slightly improved if he was looking slightly down with his head less rotated.

Having said that it is a great shot. Is it with the 50/1.4 or the 85/1.8 I suspect the 50/1.4 ??

Love the candid expression so I like the shot even though it is not tack sharp. Bob, your edits were too extreme colorwise. First one too orange and second one too blue. I think I like the original shot the best. Nice job Rioni!

Thanks again for the work on the edits Bob. This one looks abit cool compared to your first one. I'm definitely going to go with that crop.

Thanks chrnat. This was actually shot with a 180mm prime at f/2.8. I was shooting something else and happened to catch this. Unfortunately, I did not have time to change the apature.

Thanks cgen. If you click on the picture you will see that it is actually tack sharp but the focus is slightly off (mainly due to the extremely shallow dof). That was making me second guess the pic but it looks like it works anyways.

Thanks Flo. I was going to print a large 13x19 for the family of this one an few others.

Also, here is the second shot that was taken. I'd most likely even out the color of the bokeh in the middle of the picture if printing. I also wish I didn't have such an extreme crop. Which do you think would make a better print out of these two?

The original looks great to me. I see sharp focus on the eyes, good, natural skin color in the cheeks, and a pose that says he has attitude. The only thing I see an issue is the shallow DOF and even that is a matter of taste here because of the subject and pose.

I'd print it and hang it.
