This guy and one of his friends spent part of the summer with us. My wife is tying her hand at rehabbing raccoons. So, naturally I play along and get new subjects to photograph.

I am having issues with the joypad/dpad. Coming from a 5d, the joystick was able to select a point with one click... the joypad takes a few movements similar to a rebel dpad... am I missing something or configured wrong?

You're not missing anything. Canon is changing the efficient joystick to a 1/5/7 fast camera only feature. Everything else is considered slow and gets the 'simplified' single piece pad design. I generally take slow images, but it's the one thing I miss from my 7D.
