I need a 2nd camera body for travel and holidays and I'm considering the 6D. Are you guys happy with it, or are there any little gripes you wish Canon would put right? Also, why did you buy this as opposed to the 5D3?

Many thanks for your help guys, really appreciated ;-)a

I can't speak for everyone else but personally I can't recommend the 6D enough. I love mine. As far as gripes go, I do with they had included two card slots. Its not a huge issue and impacts me more when I'm shooting video than stills but it would be nice. I chose mine over the 5d3 because it does everything I need it to for significantly less money, and I liked the feel/weight of it better in my hands.

I am of the opinion that happiness will depend on whether the camera fits a person's intended uses. I like to do a lot of indoor/ low-light photography with still/slow subjects, so I love the 6D for that usage and thus am very satisfied with it. No gripes at all so far, to be honest. I'm actually forcing myself to think of something that I dislike about this camera as I type this and I can't think of anything right now... maybe something will come up the longer I use it?

That being said, on the rare occasion I want to photograph sports, I take the 60D instead. I like the longer reach and the AF seems a tad bit faster. And that's a 60D, which pales in comparison to a 7D in those situations. So I can see if someone's primary interest is sports photography and they get a 6D, they might not be too happy with it (but I don't know why even a semi-informed consumer would get a 6D if they are a sports shooter).

I got the 6D over the 5D Mark III because of budget. Not necessarily affordability, I could shell out the extra $1000 or whatever it is without affecting my finances. I just didn't feel comfortable paying that extra for all that camera which seemed a bit more than what I'd need. Then again to be honest I could probably get by with a T3i and a speedlite since I'm not a pro.

for me, the ceilings I keep banging off of are the slow FPS and 1/4000 limit on the shutter. we'll probably pick up a 7D as a sports/birding body in the near future, but we do little enough of that to really matter right now.

But don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore my 6D.

Hello all, this is my first post on the forum and I hope I am okay putting this here instead of making a new thread.

I just purchased a 6D used on eBay and was wondering what sort of stuff I should look out for? How can I test to ensure the camera is as the seller described, outside of what would be apparent to the eye? Any recommended tests to conduct upon receiving the camera? I shoot mainly video, by the way.

The shutter count is said to be in the 13,000 range. What realm are we talking about for the lifetime shutter use? My 5DIII is a year old and is under 2,000, my 60D is 2 years and is at about 6,000.

Upon receiving the camera, I intend to use eoscount to check. Is that site reliable? I got the shutter actuation figures mentioned before from that site, but do not know if it is widely trusted as reliable information.

Thank you!

Having followed this thread almost all the way through, and constantly seeing your food shots I got to ask:

Are these shots you took at the venue, or are these shots you prepared? Either way, they always look great!
