Thanks for viewing Awesome. 24mm f/4.5 ISO 400 1/30 sec. I believe the strobes from the post were aimed toward the discs. The colors inside of each disc constantly change a couple of minutes.

Just got a 35mm f/2 (old version) -- like what I see so far.

Just got this lens. Like what I see so far:

Gabe, great shots! Apart from the reach difference, how do you like the 6D for your bird shots vs. your 7D or 70D?

Thank you.

I don't use the 6D for birds too often, although during the summer I shot about 1000 photos of storks, smaller birds, and bigger birds (planes) when I was in Hungary using my mid-size Sigma 70-200 2.8 OS + 2x TC. That wasn't very long, only 400mm but I didn't want to carry a bigger lens with my on my trip.

I used my 6D on that trip since I wanted to take a body that was overall the best choice for my trip (also took along my 24-105L and Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC)

Back to the point, I actually do like the bird images I get from my 6D; in fact, quality-wise I'd say I prefer them to my 7D/70D. Obviously the reach isn't there, but the sharpness is better (since the higher pixel density of the 70D puts more "stress" on an already somewhat reduced image quality of the lens + 2x TC.) Noise handling is so much better, we all know that :)
So when I'm not focal length limited, like shooting birds from my living room window at a distance of about 12 feet, I don't mind using it. They are also static (most of the time), so the AF is not a limiting factor either. Although, I have shot lots of bird images using AI Servo on my 6D with good results).

Not sure if I've ever posted this here, but here's a shot from my trip, using AI Servo tracking with my 6D. Lens was Sigma 70-200 2.8 OS + 2x TC. This is a male white stork flying through my parents backyard heading back to the nest. There is a nest 20 feet from my parents house. 3 stork chicks were in the nest this year and I documented 2-3 weeks of their lives :) They flew out early august, and promptly landed in the backyard since my parents had a sprinkler system running for hours every day. It was an unusually hot and dry summer, so the water lured these magnificent birds nearby. Taking pictures of them was like shooting fish in a barrel ;)

Seen your bird photos with the 6D before. Very nice, Gabe.

For servo, do you use center point only?

Yes, most of the time. I only use off center when someone asks me to test it :) (Or doubts that those off-center points work at all...)

Do you ever use "Automatic" which starts with center point and moves to outer points as necessary to maintain focus? (as I understand it)

Most of the off center comments seem to be from people who never owned a 6D. All you guys who have had the 6D for a while, how is the real world performance of the off-center points? I realize that they are not going to be as good as the center point, not debating that, but in good light, I would imagine them doing ok. In situations where the off-center points do worse, do you get worse accuracy, or do you just have failure to focus?

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Accuracy is fine... You just need to be more mindful of the orientation of the AF point sensitivity.

I'm not really sure I know of this. How do you turn this feature on or off?

Sony A7RII and a bunch of lenses.
