Good question. It really does make slow shutter choices.

Does anyone know if there is a way to adjust the way the camera selects shutter speed and ISO when in Av mode? I tend to find it quite often picks a marginally slowish shutter speed with low ISO's and would prefer it used a bit more ISO to get a bit safer shutter speeds.

For example, quite often I'll be shooting at 200mm, and it will pick 125-160th/second at ISO 100-200 when it seems quite reasonable to shoot at 400ISO and use 250-300/sec shutter.

Of course this can be fixed by just selecting an ISO instead of using auto but just interested why it picks marginal shutter speeds when there is plenty of ISO headroom, and if there are user settings to change this behaviour?

If you need a constant exposure and want a certain aperture, maybe try shooting in M and setting your Exposure/Aperture but leaving the ISO on auto? I do this quite often if I think the metering may be too off for me in AV.

Thanks. I order from fractureme.com (external link). They are printed directly on glass, but the company is US based. Not sure if they ship outside of the US.

Yeah even if they did ship overseas probably cost me a fortune. There was an article on FStoppers on how to make a large canvas print for under $150, you should check it out!

I do also have a couple canvas prints but I didn't like how it looks for all kinds of photos. Looks good for landscape but others, not as much

Love using this lens at ƒ1.4! Such a cool effect for a wide angle :)
Need an AF-C chip though as focusing is a bit tricky ;)

Well I finally tried out another lens. I love the bokeh on the 85 1.8 but I found that I had trouble figuring out how far back I had to be to get the shot I wanted. I was just so use to my 50 I guess! I've now officially been shooting for three weeks and I've learned so much on these six shoots. My first shoot three weeks ago I didn't know anything but how to focus and to make sure to keep it at 1.8 aperture for bokeh, haha.

Here are some shots from today's shoot:

Beautiful.

Thank you :)

If anyone is interested, I have done some test shots with the Samyang 24mm ƒ1.4 lens, these are at the wider end of the aperture :)
NOTE: The lens was focussed while at ƒ3.4, at 1.4 the focus gets thrown out a bit, so you can actually get tighter stars at ƒ1.4

Great comparison :D I personally like the f2.8 or the f3.4 best, it may just be the part of the sky but they seem to have better contrast to me. Either way great work!

Haha oh gosh thank you! I've still got so much to learn! I've been shooting for less than a month and still haven't graduated past natural lighting and the 50mm and 85 mm haha.

Thank you! Yeah I typically use ƒ2.4-ƒ3.4 with this lens, although in really dark skies, ƒ1.4 gives a fog filter effect, so renders brighter stars as larger hazy ones, it's a nice effect. But ƒ2.8/3.4 give the brighter stars an 8 point star :)

:DI liked F3.4. Especially when you print it big. Almost as good as looking up the night skies.
