Agreed. Quit it with those gorgeous photos already! Post a blurry underexposed shot of a plant or something just to mix things up.

Clearly, I need to learn how Mack does it, because mine looked nothing like that. All I got was black with a few white dots.. Sony A7RII and a bunch of lenses.

We do ok without them here ![]() I'm fascinated by them and watch them on tv all the time, but really have a fear of them. Love the photo of the Parrot snake though. Yeah. That's how mine came out too. I'm just bummed out that I wasted being in the Grand Canyon. I live in a very populated area (Los Angeles). So these dark skies do not come about very often. I live in a very populated area (Los Angeles). So these dark skies do not come about very often. Having said that, what's your easy tip for getting one of these shots going? I shot a 28mm, wide open (f/1.8) for various exposures from a few seconds to 30 seconds. None of them came out very well. I read somewhere that one should shoot at high ISO. I think I was at ISO 100, unfortunately. Is that the trick? Try this: 6D x 2 | TM SP 35mm ƒ1.4 | 50mm ƒ1.8 | 85mm ƒ1.8 | 24-105mm ƒ4L USM | 135mm ƒ2L | 200mm ƒ2.8L II | 17-40mm ƒ4L | Sy 24mm ƒ1.4 | Sy XP 14mm ƒ2.4 Flickr

Another question: How do you get focus right? I was standing in a dark canyon, with no light whatsoever, using my phone as a flashlight to set aperture, shutter speed, etc. Way too hard to focus on anything in the dark (including manually). I simply set focus to infinity and hit the shutter release. Yeah if you have a focus window that shows infinity, focus to infinity. If not, at ISO 10,000 or above, in live view, you will see the brightest stars and car focus manually on them? 6D x 2 | TM SP 35mm ƒ1.4 | 50mm ƒ1.8 | 85mm ƒ1.8 | 24-105mm ƒ4L USM | 135mm ƒ2L | 200mm ƒ2.8L II | 17-40mm ƒ4L | Sy 24mm ƒ1.4 | Sy XP 14mm ƒ2.4 Flickr
