Another of my brother with the Rokinon 85mm... every time I see him I have to re-configure his camera for him, I wish he'd just listen to me  He's always purplexed why his shots are either blurry, noisy or are washed out... every time his camera is set to it's max ISO of 1600 or minimum 100, and is in Landscape or Portrait mode. I've probably explained ISO and shutter speed to him 10 times now, oh well.

I was so jealous when my dad bought him that camera, long before I was even into photography and my brother swore he was really into it... funny how times change

Buy him a copy of Understanding Exposure. Nothing "clicked" for me until I read that book, I used to take a shot on each position on the dial until I got a shot that exposed properly. lol

That's a pretty good idea. I'm getting really tired of him saying "man, I wish my camera took shots like that!" But, he's my older brother and will always have that superiority complex I think... lol

I did let him try shooting with my 6D, which I only have manual lenses for at the moment... he didn't much care for it  I also used his camera for a few shots to show him what it was capable of, haven't heard back from him on how he liked those shots.

To soften the blow of "you don't know what you're doing so read this book", you could get him a set of books. The "Learning to See Creatively" is also a good and easy read by Bryan Peterson. ;)

Nah, my brother deserves a few hard blows from me, I'd love to get him a "Photography for dummies" book

His birthday's not too far away, I think I will pick him up that book, thanks for the suggestions :)

I feel the same with my brother lol. He's been taking photography classes, and in advance courses now, and I still have many SMH moments with him. He's got all the good toys too... his kit probably costs double of what I have..... when it comes to buying gear, I simply dont want to compete with him.

He finds out that I shoot 50mm F1.2, so he gets the nikon 50 1.2 AIS, then mitakon 0.95.... 135, he gets the 85 1.2, 70-300, ups me with the 70-200mk2 lol. My 6D, instead he gets the 5D3. My 17-35mm tamron, he shows up with the 17mm TSE. My second body 5Dc compared to his A7r. He has to one up me when it comes to gear ;)

good thing is that he shares his gear, and I have a good understanding of how I should shape my kit based on the usage of his gear.

Haha, that sounds a lot like my good friend Dustin. He has a 5D3 and almost nothing but L lenses and is always asking me how I get my shots, but at least he flatters me :)

The funniest part is how he is holding the camera. Especially his left hand. Not supporting the lens, just holding the dslr like a compact camera. :p

I think I have to follow your lead. I was going to order the lens next week, but this is motivation to not wait.

Yup, I told him about that right after I took the picture... I doubt he'll change the way he shoots though
