Went out and shot the milkyway for the first time earlier this week. Borrowed a friend's Rokinon 14mm f/2.8.

Yup that was Wednesday :) be great to see it from your angle!

Here is the one I got. I was trying for the reflections of the sun in the windows. It was amazing how fast they changed !

Love the milky way shots above :)

I haven't been on POTN in a while. I've been shooting "professionally" lately and it's great to make some money doing it. I've had about five paying jobs now. All but one were for people I know (neighbors and co-workers), and one was for a family who just adopted. I got paid to be a second shooter at an event as well. So I've had much less time to casually enjoy this webpage (been editing).

Anyway, here are a few photos I did lately.

Prom pics for a friend:

IMAGE: http://fairbanksfamily.smugmug.com/Portraits/Prom-14/i-5KSKqbb/0/XL/IMG_3620-XL.jpg

Little Eli, adopted three months ago from China and already speaks pretty good English.

IMAGE: http://fairbanksfamily.smugmug.com/photos/i-N894BV7/0/XL/i-N894BV7-XL.jpg

Another adoption portrait (I forgot the little girl's name).

IMAGE: http://fairbanksfamily.smugmug.com/photos/i-knT98nh/0/XL/i-knT98nh-XL.jpg

Eli with his new brother and sister.

My neighbors who hired me to make some springtime portraits. We stumbled upon this location, which just happened to match their outfits. Note: Those are the same train tracks where they filmed several episodes of The Walking Dead this past season. They are overgrown and normally ugly, but with wildflowers blooming they look pretty cool.

IMAGE: http://fairbanksfamily.smugmug.com/Portraits/Speice/i-9FV69CP/0/XL/IMG_4761-XL.jpg

I know train tracks photos are cliche, but many clients still want them, and if that's what they want then that's what they get. But also, these particular tracks are unused, so they have a little more beauty to them in the spring, as mentioned.

Finally, a casual graduation portrait. I taught this young man when he was in my fifth grade class. I taught him social studies, and it stuck. He's love it ever since and will go to Georgia Southern to study political science. Nice kid (Alex).

Mike,

Those are very nice shots. I love the little guy on the phone.

The perspective for the one with the girl by herself on the tracks is a bit strange. There is no indication that she has any legs. :/ Sorry, it just strikes me as odd.

I think those are steps rather than tracks. Having said that, a faster lens may have been better in reducing the "busyness" of the surrounding area. But still very nice pics....

Having her a little askew with her knees bent and feet up in the background slightly blurred might have made that shot spectacular. Pretty nice as it is though.

I think the train got her legs. ;)

Hadn't thought of that. Thanks.

Let me jump in here for a minute please. Liking the images I'm seeing from the 6D and wonder how many of you jumped from the 5dII to it. I shoot nothing that moves and hardly ever use my flash so should I make the move since the price difference isn't that much of a spread or just be happy with the MarkII.
Thanks,
Whisle

Whisle,

Jump on in. The water is fine.

Sorry, I don't have a MkII, but was going to purchase one when the 6D came out. I was swayed by the higher ISO performance and the WiFi (which I sometimes use, even as an old guy).

By reputation the ISO performance is much better than the MkII and the AF is incrementally better.

I have experienced no banding when pulling shadows, which is roundly reported about the MkII.

You might miss the joystick.

I presume that you are in more northern Virginia than near where I am or I'd loan you mine.

What are you hoping to gain by this trade?

Dwain
