Didn't make it last night, but ordering opens back up in 3.5 hours, and the sale still seems to be in effect. The biggest thing for me between Amazon and B&H is that the second one wouldn't charge me tax for shipping it to my address here in Washington.

Yup, looks like the offers are valid through today, at least.

I wish I didn't wait so long to order mine, as I could be out shooting with it instead of looking at a stupid computer screen all weekend.

Yeah, not much picture taking for me until the project is over, been having mostly 58hr work weeks the last 3 months.

Thinking about going full frame soon with income tax coming.. Considering the Canon 6D. The pics in this thread sway me towards it more n more. Only thing that gives me concerns is the 1 cross type focus points. My Canon 60D has all cross types now.

I would say, try and borrow it for a few days if you know someone with a 6D, or rent it? Worst case scenario go to Best Buy and play around with it on the 3ft leash, maybe you will get at least a bit of a sense on how the AF is compared to your 60D.
Or maybe there are direct comparison reviews comparing the two cameras?

Thats one of the biggest knocks against it. I want to move up too. The focus on your 60D will probably be better for moving objects.

So I am not an expert, but my understanding of crosstype is the focus points ability to be sensitive to both vertical and horizontal contrasting lines, meaning that non-crosstype will have more difficulty to lock focus depending on the orientation of contrast in the subject.

I also thought that the AI Servo tracking has to do with algorithms and software insofar as the ability to track moving subjects. So theoretically, if the AI Servo on the 6D is capable (and there are some threads with interesting results on this), and the subject matter is sensitive to the focus point you're using, then whether its crosstype or not doesn't matter in that case.

Similarly, if you're not tracking moving subjects but are shooting a still scene, again depending on the subject matter in view of the focus point, a crosstype can generally be more likely to lock focus, if the subject matter contrast is perpendicular to the similarly placed non-crosstype focus point's sensitivity; otherwise either point would be able to lock focus.

So it seems to me that while crosstype points are more likely to lock focus on a wider variety of subject matter, this has nothing to do with the camera's tracking ability (although it can be helpful for subjects that the linear focus point cannot lock on to).

Just my thoughts. If I am wrong, just ignore me. Nothing to see here, move along
