Hi - by now...I have gone through 8 to 9 lenses and now this is the first time I am venturing into this kind of price range. Additionally I am certain I am gonna want something more or get another lens and hence it will come to selling this.

My questions is for those who have a first hand experience, how much can I expect for a lens like this in 3-4 years if in pristine condition? Especially if something new comes along...

Thanks guys....

Gear: 7D, Canon 70-200 f8 MK II, 70-200 f4 IS, 24-70 f2.8 and Sigmalux 50 f1.4 Flash: 580EXii

It will probably not drop a lot below the $1800 used bottom I see now. But depends on what new prices do and condition. This lens is pretty recent so doubt something new will come along by then. If you are concerned, best to buy used now and you'll like stay pretty flat.

Did you see this...BHP is selling it for $2099.00 ($400 discount). Better move fast, the deal ends TODAY!

Ok, lets say you buy the lens for $2099. In 4 years you sell it for $1400. That means over a 4 year period the lens cost you $699, or $174.75 per year. For a great lens like this, that's dirt cheap.

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.

I had my 70-200 f.8 IS mkI for 4 years and sold it for $40 more than I payed for it. It was simply good timing, plus I got a good deal when I bought it.

Well, it is difficult to predict.

Sometimes lenses take a hit when a new version comes out. Sometimes people hate the new version. In the case of this Mk 2 it is unlikely that Canon has a Mk 3 anytime soon.

You might damage it. Or drop it into the ocean. Or have a piano fall on it.

There might be a huge sale of refurbished gear that give pressure on the prices.

There might be a huge push away from Canon DSLRs or general DSLR gear, leaving lots of "old style glass" around.

On the other hand Canon raises the prices all the time.

Overall, however, the IS2 is probably the most stable thing you can buy.

My imagine composition sucks. I need a heavier lens.
