Hmm very nice shots - what did u use for lightning ?

Who me?? If you mean my shots, I used 3 speedlights into brollys and a modelling lamp for the sitting portraits... for the candids, either natural light at 800-1600 ISO or a 580EX with a Lumiquest 70/30 on top. Some had the OmniBounce.

That is... if you were referring to my shots. If you were thanks. If not.... sorry about that... thought you were talking to me.

IS THIS TRUE???? I learn something every day.... does this really happen... if so... that would explain some of my 24-70 issues..... can someone confirm this>?

The difference in lighting sources got me thinking about the copy I returned for front-focusing, but upon reviewing my test images, even the ones taken outdoors were OOF.

Well it definately has me thinking now, particularly because the focus test I did last night was done under hotlights, and not natural lighting.... or even close. Color temp was definately way warm, as was the actual temp of the room... but that's a whole other issue.

If incadescent / tungsten / halogen can affect focus..... that badly, that is something I need to know.... but still... why it only affected the 24-70L and not the other lenses I own is still a mystery then.....

Oh well...... focused OK today.... so, who knows....

This doesn't make sense, if you told me it changes the speed of the AF I'd maybe believe that since lower light tends to strain AF systems so I could rationalize that various light temperature could effect the speed to some odd degree.

But affects the actual focus point location? Then we would need WB settings for AF wouldn't we, and I'd be hosed doing that on film wouldn't I?

I do agree with the fact that AF does strain itself in a low light conditions to get a decent in focus photo. Also take into consideration the SHUTTER-SLEDGE-HAMMER-MIRROR SLAM DUNK in a 20D that shakes camera like crazy.I have batt grip and still in a slow speed shakes camera pretty bad.First time when I payed off my visa bill I'll get my hands on 5D!

So turn on TTL and hope for the best.

Wasn't me who suggested it..... I just hadn't heard of it before... :-) Anyway..... I'm done with the focus charts... Canon wants me to swap out this copy for another one and see what happens... I like the lens, just am not in love with it yet. It could just be me with this one... we all have our particular quirks.... I want a supersharp image, or not, but I want to control the image and not have the lens choose to be soft or sharp. Good news is, my guy will swap it.... so, no harm, no foul. At the very worst, I'll give the 17-40 a go.... :-)
