The game will last 7 Days and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.
Feel free to comment and/or ask questions at any time. This is a good competition for learning new methods, so let's make it a bit more dynamic. I will be judging edits, not comments. Feel free to comment on the original image as well.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #451."

Game ends Saturday, 8th December, 2012 at 8:00pm GMT+4.

If you want to crop more or do something crazy in Raw, here are some weightier options:
Full-size Jpeg (12mb): https://dl.dropbox.com/u/41183616/_MG_1040_big.jpg (external link)
Raw file (25mb): https://dl.dropbox.com/u/41183616/_MG_1040.CR2 (external link)
Note: The Jpegs are in linear gamma, which is why the contrast is so low, but it makes color correction much easier.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

Clean your sensor.

Shampoo sounds like an unfortunate name for a hair product.

Here's my rendition...

I brought it into Machinery HDR to pump up the photo a bit then I did a little straightening and B&W conversion in Photoshop.

Oh, and I got rid of the specs from the dirty sensor. :)

I had to save it with a high compression ratio to get it down from 11MB to 150k since I was going to attach it.

Breakneck trip across Isreal - which is dust city central so to speak - but I only had primes with me so the lens had to come off several times... Some of the results were definitely worth the risk :)

Opened in Camera RAW, blitzed dust bunnies, reduced exposure and amended white balance. Increased vibrance and clarity, sharpened and lens correction.
Ran a couple of painting filters and added stroke.

I just wanted to add some color and contrast, but I accidentally saved the timestamp as [23:59 12/21/2012] and this is what happened.

Added a night sky I had and blended at about 60 grey, spot healed out urban stuff to give it a ruins look, Then added a brown dwarf and did some blending, smudging to give an exploded look. Added dynamic spot lighting and brushed in some color saturation to match the cataclysmic explosion. Wingdings faded in for the text and skull.

Here's my version, as I don't have photoshop, lightroom or the equivalent, I just opened up iPhoto, and touched it up. Fixed up the contrast, shadows and highlights, as well as a slight crop, mainly to focus in more on the actual building...

Please get your sensor cleaned!

Ok, so this round is over, and here are my thoughts:

CameraMan - I like this one, nice and crunchy B&W.
NigelD - Interesting effect you were going for, but it seems rather chaotic with the lines everywhere.
08photog - I like how clean and contrasty this looks, but something about the color is out of place..
Nature Nut - It's the apocalypse!
Heycoop - The contrast & saturation is really up to 11 on this one lol.

So the verdict is that, after performing calculus, gathering statistics from Wolfram|Alpha and flipping coins, the win goes to Nature Nut's Apocalypse! :)

And yes guys, don't worry, my sensor's been clean for a while now.
