Should I worry about scratching a flash's "glass?"

Hi,

Googled this for a while, but came up nil. Figured I'd ask here...

Just got a 600EX and the pouch it comes with is super nice but too bulky to fit in my already stuffed bag. Should I worry about putting the flash naked into my bag?

If it does collect fine scratches on the outside lens is it a significant problem?

No. Small scratches won't do a thing to the quality of the light.

If you want it covered, a big and tall crew sock works without adding much bulk. Just cut off the calf part of the sock to fit.

Minor scratches won't affect its performance.

Heck, even major scratches won't affect its performance.

Steer clear of belt sanders and I think you'll be fine.

The pouch that comes with the flash isn't good for much, except maybe to hang it on your belt if you have to remove the flash from the camera to attach a transmitter or something. I've got pouches in boxes that have never been used.
