Just took a flashlight down the rear element and noticed its pretty dirty inside. Like no cleaning room manufacturing.

I looked inside my friends lens as well, his has dust as well, mine has a bit more.

Is this gonna be a problem? or is it common?

At $2300+ for a lens in this focal range, I'd be contacting Canon if there was a single spec of dust.

Every lens will have dust in it. No dust in a lens will be visible in your photo. Just shoot with it and forget it. Stop being so critical of it. Pretty much every lens I've ever purchases has had some form of dust in it.

Either you are over-generalizing or you just have had poor luck...I've never purchased a new lens with any visible dust inside the elements. A new L lens, not mentioned a $2000+ L lens with dust inside is unacceptable IMO. Regardless if it affects IQ or not, there shouldn't be any particles in a brand new lens in this price point, period.

My new 85mm f/1.2 II came with a spec of dust in the rear element. It slightly irritates me but the final picture quality makes me not care.

Take an led flash light and look through it, My guess is you'll find something :)

Or, just look through your lens and aim the viewfinder at a light source, i.e Room lamp or something.

I tried that with my other lenses, and whoa... all of them have dust. Long as it doesn't show in photos I'm okay with it I guess.

*Note* if you're super anal about things, I don't recommend you shine a flashlight in your lens, you'll might not like what you find haha.

Yes this lol. LED flashlights expose everything!

If they are some fined dust,it's OK because even you need to shine on them to be visible on you
Little bit of dust won't hurt your photos, may be take more photos while you check with dust

Yep you're better off not looking for that factory dust : ) Per previous posts its normal and will only get worse moreso in lenses with extendible front elements such as the 2470.

You have been amazingly lucky is all I can say. I've had dust on every lens I've ever bought, Nikon, Canon, Tamron and new or used, it makes no difference. As already said, it makes no measurable difference to the resulting image.

Don't worry, it is genuine Canon dust! It is one of those final touches added to help the lens be so special. Be happy it doesn't cost extra to get it!

On a serious note! Unless it is absolutely humongous, don't worry about it, it will not noticeably affect IQ!

Thanks for Reading & Good Luck - Jim

Don't worry, what you're seeing is the Magical L Dust.
And people think the only thing special about Ls are the red ring :P
