I am asking this in the birding section because I want birders opinions not some wedding shooter. : )
So, I am ready for a new body. I would like to get me habds on a !D mk4 but you can't seem to get them anymore. : ( So, the IDX sounds good, but does not impress me at all. The 5D MK3 sure sounds like it would be really good with the new AF system.
So, whats the gereral thoughts on the two?

How does a 1dx not impress? Its a 5d3 on steroids.

If I had the money I would choose a 1dx over a 5d3.

I heard they have a fix for it now, but as soon as I read it will not auto fucus at F/8 I told myself I would never get one. Fix or not, just the fact that they would put it out like that was very dumb. I guess I just can't get it out of my head. :(

If you were to get the 5d3 then you would be losing 4 fps and build quality. 1Dx you would be gaining 2 fps, build quality, and weather sealing. And if what you say is true, you would not lose the f/8.

4 fps is quite a lot. IMO if money is not the issue it would be a no brainer to get the 1dx.

You may already know this but Canon announced a new firmware update for the 5D3 that's scheduled to be released around April of 2013 that will allow auto focus at f8 also. To my knowledge, this is the first time Canon has offered this feature on a non 1D series camera.

I heard there was a fix, but if there is, Google does not seem to know about it. I just need to find a good used 1d mk4

A firmware update for the 1DX has already been released that allows auto focus at f8 now.

Another thing that I don't like about any of these cameras, is like the IDX, what, 71 AF points? I use one (center), that is 70 I have no use for

Actually, both the 5D3 and 1DX have 61 focus points so that's only 60 you won't need. :D I think I'd rather have the extra 60 points and not need them than to need them and not have them. I generally use center point focusing too but it's nice knowing I have all the other points if I need them.

I noticed you said you would look at a 1D Mk IV which may be a very good option at a reduced price. You may not be able to buy new but can find a clean used body. I had the 1D Mk III and was not satisfied with the small buffer and how long it took to write to the cards when the buffer was maxed. Usually don't max out but when shooting birds happens more often as the fly in to land. Missed quite a few owl shots this past year due to the buffer and upgraded to the 1D Mk IV and haven't looked back. Another reason I like the 1D Mk IV is the 1.3 crop factor, its like always having a 1.4X TC attached and it is also very good a high ISO.

1D Mark IV, 5D Mark III, 7D, 1.4X MkIII, 2X MkIII, 17-40mm L, 70-200mm f2.8 IS Mk II L, 100mm macro, 500mm f4 IS L, 24-105mm f4 L, 580 EX II, 550EX

"IF" I were to ever upgrade from my 1D4 I would go with the 1DX. I spoke with a photographer at Conowingo Dam who uses one and he was VERY impressed with the images that came out of it...even over the 1D4 (his wife uses a 1D4).

Pretty much what I was going to type (except for the Conowingo Dam part ;) ) . And Tom, I was like you at first, when I heard the new 1DX wouldn't AF at F8, I stroked it off my list permanently. Or so I thought, until they issued the Firmware improvement. Now, I drool over some of the shots I see posted from 1DX owners and will likely own one within 6 months or so, depending on photo sales :)
