I heard from a supplier that Canon may be discontinuing the CLI-8 ink series that it uses in its pima 9000pro mk II printer. Anyone know if this is true? I know that several stores have stopped carrying the 8 ink package.

Dec 02, 2012 09:57 | #2 There is a vast number of printers out there that use these inks, including some models that are still sold. I can't imagine that Canon would discontinue selling inks to service these, given that the the inks are where printer manufacturers make their money. On the other hand, it is entirely possible that they will introduce a replacement line of inks. Check out my photos at http://dkoretz.smugmug.com

So my thought is that at some point in the future, Canon will stop producing the CLI-8's. That said, in addition to the 9000, there are a bunch of other Canon printers that use CLI-8's though they only use 4 or 5 carts instead of 8. With all these other models out there using CLI-8, I find it hard to believe that they will be discontinue CLI-8 anytime soon. It will probably be several years before all the models using the said inks will be discontinued and un-supported. 50D / 28-1.8 / 100-2.8L / 200-2.8L / YN565Ex

Dec 02, 2012 20:23 | #5 Well, I know staples and Walmart used to carry it, but now longer carry the 8 pack as well. It would be great if Canon had merely changed the printer heads on the pro 9000 to allow larger ink canisters. BIGGER INK TANKS for an awesome printer.... canon 7D gripped(wi-fi)

The HP rep said they would produce cartridges for 5 years. Canon 1D3 / 70-200mm f/2.8L IS / 17-40mm 4.0L / 50mm 1.4 / 580EXII / Manfrotto 055XPROB/488RC2 / PixmaPro 9000ii / StylusPro 3800

If you extrapolate out the cost of ink it works out to about $4600.00 per imperial gallon. Based on that I don't see the CLI-8 ink going away too soon. Regards
