The new Tamron 70-200 VC is out, and apparently has its first really good review. ** There may be other reviews out there? **

I think this lens may steal some Canon mk2 sales as it's nearly a grand less. If there are few compramises I imagine sales will be good for Tamron.

Will need to be a lot less than the list price on the high street cause at the moment the MK2 is £1,788.98 http://www.amazon.co.uk …567D8/cpbcom-21/ref=nosim (external link) vs Tamrons £1,649.99

For a extra 139 GBP, it's a no brainer..... Here in the USA it's a different story as the difference is much greater. Canon is 600 dollars more than the Tamron. 28.6% savings.

I just ordered a canon mk2 on Friday, but I'm still interested in the results from this one.

Still to be determined is whether the new Tamron lens will accurately and quickly track action, such as an approaching basketball fast break from the baseline. That is something the previous Tamron lens could not achieve. Unfortunately, the typical online lens review does not take this kind of factor into account, preferring easier images of static subjects.

I wouuld sell my Sigma for Tamron. My GFs Tamron 70-300 VC is really solid lens (compared to comparable Canon, Sigma lens in same price range)

Same here, I ordered a canon mk2 on Thursday. I was on the fence waiting on this lens to be released but figured with the $400 rebate the canon was a good deal

Agreed. I also figured the canon will retain its value better and the tamron is bound to see a price drop sometime after its release. Should that happen and the tamron proves worthy, then maybe I'd move to it to recoup some $ for another lens.

If the "Tamron proves worthy" like it's sibling the 24-70 2.8 VC, then there may be a substantial wait before any price drop. the Tamron 24-70 is approaching its one year birthday and most major sellers still offer it at it's introductory price of $1299.

Looking at the charts and sample images, it looks comparable to the mk 2. Depending on how well the AF works in low light for event shooting, and depending how it's priced in my country, I might actually get his one instead of the Canon. Noticeable downsides seem to be the lack of focus limiter and panning mode VC.

If the Tamron optical performance is as good as the one without VC, or slightly better, plus the improved AF and VC, it will be a killer lens.

I like Tamron, but would like to see other reviews besides ephotozine. I can't recall their ever giving a lens anything other than positive marks. When Photozone AND Lenstip give a lens a good review, you know you've got a real winner.

No point to compare to the mkII.

If you want the absolute best then you pay the premium for it...

People that buys/owns the mkII knows this.

Its direct competitor should be the Sigma 70-200 OS which is priced similarly and a great lens in its own right.

You do know that in the Canon you're paying the premium for the name, right?
