Hey, guys. First off, please excuse me for being a bit scatter brained here. And please excuse me for asking to be spoon fed here as well. I'm usually super-research-guy to the extent that it takes me months to make a purchase but I'm in a time crunch here and could really use some help.
First off, the gear I own:
- Rebel XTI3 Body
- 10-22mm
- 50mm 1.8 prime
- 28-135mm
- 70-300mm (a cheap kit lens that I haven't used in forever)
Problem #1: I'm going to WDW for vacation in a few days. This is only a problem because I have been slacking.
Problem #2: I have been wanting/needing to get a new standard/zoom lens to replace the 28-135mm we currently have. It's a good lens. Good build quality, and it's been great to us over the past couple years since I bought it used here. However, when I compare the PQ to that of the $100 50mm prime I own, and compare it to pictures taken from other lenses, I am left a bit unhappy with the sharpness of the photo. I know this is a subjective thing, so let's just say that subjectively I prefer the crispness that the 28-135mm just doesn't seem to possess.
Problem #3: I had intended to purchase a new lens to replace this by now so we can have it ready for #1 above. Well... I've just been busy. Busy at work, busy with other hobbies, ... busy. And now I'm in a time crunch.
I see a few options: rent a lens or buy a lens.
I'd rather not rent simply because I hate to throw away money on a lens in that kind of fashion. I'm good about buying what I want and keeping it, in terms of photography gear (with audio gear, I go through it like underwear, but I digress). If I weren't in a time crunch, I could buy used but the odds of me finding a lens that I can receive by Tuesday are slim to... none. Though, I did start a WTB thread here. That leaves me with using Amazon Prime and paying a few bucks for 2-day delivery.
What I'd really like some feedback on are alternatives to the 28-135mm. I had really, really wanted the 24-105 L or the 24-70 L. But, at BNIB, it's out of what I can afford. Heck, maybe a prime small ~30mm prime is the answer to fill in the gap and keep the 28-135 for zoom?

Are there Sigma or other options that would be recommended to fill in the gap of the 28-100'ish range? I hesitate to give a budget simply because I don't know exactly what the options are. But, let's say no more than used L-series pricing.
Any ideas here? Again, I apologize for expecting to be spoonfed but I hope you guys will understand how it is to be accountable for the lens purchase decisions in the family and have the wife give you "the look" when you didn't hold up your end.

If all else fails, I'll just rent a lens in the Orlando area and pursue the quest later on after vacation.
Thanks in advance,
Erin
Cliffs: Want something like a 28-135mm with sharper and better PQ. And I need it quick.
