On the flash note. I think using a flash in this circumstance is what would separate a photojournalistic approach from an art approach. The lack of flash really makes you think about the building and why the natural light occurs where it does. Whereas with flash it would just be a shot of the inside of an abandoned building.

Magnificent Olli! These are the kinds of shots I really like. Two and three are my favs- number one makes me want to go explore though-- what is that dark mass in that corner? what is just behind. . . what would I see if I looked out that particular window and into the horizon. . .
I get such a sense of excitement and awe when I enter these places and sense of longing when I pass by a site that calls my name.
Nice work!

Thanks, Wu. Would love to arrange a photo shooting excursion, it's not that far ... :D

Thanks for the explanation about not using flash in these shots. It made perfect sense. I learn something new everytime I visit this forum, and that's what keeps me coming back.

I like the angle of view of the first one
the second - not sure about the blown out area in the top right the cluter on the floor is VERY interesting maybe a closer shot, and the third seem like it could do with a bit more dark values [more contrast]
I love this kind of photography though - can't wait to get into some of it

if anyone shoots around the GTA area and has some idea where to shoot - PM me, I'd love to hook up for a day of shooting!

Thanks David having so close look. You noticed the same problem areas bothering me too. In the 2nd, burning of the blown out area did not bring satisfactory result so I left it as it is (but dodging helped to reveal the details; have to sneak in to the building again and see if I can do more with that subject ;) ). In third pic, the contrast are not as strong as in the first two. There I tried to save the details of the different surfaces, but that is only an excuse for not making it more stiking - you can have both the details and good contrast at the same time.

Very nice! I especially like the second one with the old electric motor and hardware on the floor. It looks as if the workers just left everything and stopped working many years ago. I like your use of light- you exposed the shots very well.

I love these, I dont normally like these type of photos but yours are so good. Great use of natural light, the b+w is perfect and you made an ugly subject look beautiful and intriguing.
