Summary: Buydig gave me the runaround, apologized, & honored the original low price for (2) 5D Mark II's!

Here's a rundown of the situation:

11/23/2012 - Placed an order for (2) 5D Mark II's ($1,699)

11/25 - 11/30 Within the week I was called 3 times to verify the order. 1 of the calls was a voicemail as I could not get to the phone. I was able to anser 2 of the phone calls and verify everything they asked.

11/30 - e-mail sent asking why the order is still showing processing.

12/1 - e-mail response stating "our verification team has not authorized this order to be shipped. They still need more info from you."

12/02 - Called buydig and spoke with the same csr who called me twice before (third call was a male). She is telling me that because the order is over $1,000 they need me to either fax or e-mail a copy of my credit card and drivers license showing my shipping address. I explained to the csr my drivers license has my old address. But, the billing address and the shipping address on the credit card match! She mentioned I can send a bill that shows an address that matches the credit card.

I have ordered hundreds of times with many items being over $1,000. Never been through so much crap! I don't want to go off on a tantrum with the csr, but I have almost had it with this company!
Is this a normal request?

12/02 (about 45 minutes later) - Called buydig and spoke with a male csr (Saul) who asked for the order number. He then read off my name and address. I stated yes, that is me. He then stated the order is now processed and will be shipped overnight at no extra charge for the inconvenience.

12/03 - Shipping confirmation!

12/04 - (2) 5DII's arrived

Nope, it's not normal. Typically if a company has screening for a certain dollar amount, a single phone call is all it takes. They are treating your order as though there are multiple red flags (which maybe there are, but they haven't communicated that to you?). I'd be pretty annoyed at this point as well.

That was enough for me to call them back!

I don't know what caused this delay, but I sure hope this is the last of it!

Did you just update the address on your card? How long ago? Did you move out of state? Is your new address a PO BOX?

No, in state.

No, house.

Apparently the order is processed now. The web site still shows "processing". I should receive an e-mail notification for the shipping tomorrow.

Have you placed hundreds of orders with them or other retailers? Is this your first order with them?

Definitely bizarre. I've ordered from BuyDig at least a dozen times and have never encountered this at all.

Those are normally the typical red flags. Im VERY surprise that they're asking for additional verification in this case.

So many threads on here always discussing how careful one needs to be not to get scammed. Yet here is a retailer themselves trying to be cautious during the busiest shopping season of year when most fraud occurs and they get dragged through the mud for it. And you have the nerve to admit you are breaking the law by carrying ID/License with false information for TWO years.

Sounds like you are the type of person who deserves a red flag to me.

This sounds like they're having problems getting your authorization from the credit card process servicer--probably because of an address mismatch somewhere along the way (remember there are several entities actually involved) and it can vary based on retailer. Rather than cancel the orders, they may just be trying to resolve the problem to the processors satisfaction. I would ask the CSR if that is the case and then maybe check with the bank that issued your card.

Good luck.

After reading everything here I googled "buydig review" and got this:

Note to self: Remind me to stay away from buydig!

I didn't look through all of those but the first couple I saw were complaints over cheap eBay items.

Beach Camera (Buydig is part of Beach) has always been known for having tough verification policies with new customers. I'm not sure if the OP is new or not since my question hasn't been answered but I've made about a dozen purchases from them in the last ten years and my first order for a $400 P&S was delayed for several days because of their verification process. I wouldn't exactly put them in the same boat as the notorious B&S artists, they just have a low tolerance for fraud.

they were only trying to prevent themselves from getting scammed from stolen or invented fake credit cards.
Really? You ordered 2 of the same expensive cameras. You gotta admit thats not normal.
Because you got frustrated on the phone they got more nervous you were a scammer from Nigeria.
If I was buydig I'd done the same thing.

Especially at that price their margins are so thin, so why take a risk?

"scammer from Nigeria", came accross them last year.

Always new about the 419 scam but now they know about Paypal and try to scam local "for sale" adverts on the net, they have evolved in a dangerous way and don't just opperate from Nigeria.

Agreed. They are a good company but no company can afford to lose that kind of money. I would certainly find some phone calls and a chance to clarify some possibly questionable details over them just cancelling the order as others may. It is good business to stay in business.
