American Woodcock

I don't know how we managed to see this bird from the road, but we did. Got a few pics from the road, but it was in a lot of brush so I moved in closer and was about 10ft away before I saw it. Had to back up so the 500L would focus. It was a life bird even though the past couple of years I've gone out looking.

Holy smoke, what close ups and very sharp shots! You look like you were laying on the ground to take those! He does look very well camouflaged.

Wallace, I was about 15ft away and nearly laying on the ground. We (3 of us) nearly on top of him before I saw it, had to back up to get the 500mm to focus.

Excellent shots, these guys disappear as soon as they land,so hard to see and always a surprise when they take flight, you have to be very pleased, know I would be.

Good for you, Bill; they're tough to find and are fast fliers.
