I have been a smugmug user for a few years now, but I am considering making the switch to zenfolio, but I do have some hesitations.
One of my favorite features on smugmug is the Events/Favorites feature. With this feature, I can upload galleries directly from lightroom to smugmug and then have clients create a user name and choose their favorite photos and have that sync back to lightroom into a separate gallery under their username. What this also allows me to do is have the clients choose the photos that they would like for a book/album and/or a slideshow/animoto which helps to automate the process.
My question is, does Zenfolio offer a similar feature to this?

So you handle your own printing? I'm just curious why you need to sync back to LR?

Zenfolio will do everything you mentioned, but I'm not sure on the syncing back to LR and creating their own folder. It might work, I know you can sync back comments from Zenfolio to Lightroom.

Events with Zenfolio work similarly, a user name is associated with an event and they can log in and choose their favorites and those are saved in a new gallery, like 'Bob's favorites from XYZ event' or something similar.. I would imagine you could then sync back that folder to LR, but I've never done it.

This is the link to the LR plugin for Zenfolio - http://regex.info …ightroom-goodies/zenfolio (external link)

ZF has a free trial, so I'd just sign up and test it out.
