What am i doing wrong?

I cant seem to 'edit photo' in elements directly from LR4, It opens up the elements program, but the picture doesnt load?

Also, can you not create layers on a .psd file in elements? if i export the photo from LR as a .psd file, i am unable to create a layer on that file in elements.

Its more than likely user error, but im getting frustrated now....

I have had the same problem with Elements 10. Never could get a good answer to solve the problem. What I did is first open Elements by itself, leave it open, go to LR and then select the "Edit in elements" selection and now it will open the file in Elements. Don't know why but that should work, kinda clunky but it works.

My similar problem with LR4 and CS6 running in Windows 8 was solved by setting the shortcuts for LR4 and CS6 to "Run as administrator" using the shortcut's property page, Advanced Properties tab.

Right click on the shortcut and click Advanced button and then check "Run as administrator".

yes, make sure you are calling "PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe", and not "PhotoshopElements.exe" which calls the front panel where you can choose to organize or edit.

I've read this before and always been mystified, as mine has always just worked like it's supposed to. I've never had to jump through any hoops or done anything but just set it in the Preferences. LR4.2, Elements 10 and Win 7 64.

If you have LR4 installed before you install PSE, than lightroom does not automatically find PSE as the external editor. If you already have PSE installed & install LR it does. Found that out myself. I already had LR4 installed, installed PSE and had to go in and specify where the correct exe was for the external editor on the export tab. I had assumed it automatically picked it up.....;)

When my laptop was stolen and I had to replace it, the first thing I installed on it was LR4. I still had no trouble in preferences getting it to work seamlessly with PSE 10. I don't remember if I had to go out and find Elements or not, because I have to change the default settings from 16 bit to 8 bit for PSE. When I choose Edit In, it starts PSE and then opens the image. Don't know if it matters, but I always open RAW images as .psd in Elements.
