Not much of a landscape shooter but it's nearly impossible NOT to be able to capture the beauty of this island paradise. Critiques welcomed.

1. Best sunset of our 8 days on the island

3. Took a wicked drive through the center of the island toward Ka'anapali area. We stopped 10 times along the way to get shots like this:

4. The 'painted trees' along the Hana highway

5. Seven Sacred Pools near Hana, HI. Snapshot quality due to 'extras' in the scene!

Thanks for looking. All shots taken with 5D2 and a 35L. Honestly, pretty hard to get a 'bad shot' of this place.

You left Ohio in November for THAT crap?? Glad to see you "got out" bud. We did the same down in the Caribbean. Love the images, especially the first. One thing I thought worth mentioning was the sharpening in #2. I think you'd like this even better had you used a layer mask and selectively sharpened the rocks without touching the water. Sharpening small "waves" like that gives a very oversharpened look (even when its not oversharpened). I'd also lasso that sky and use your levels and saturation sliders to add some pop to it. Last, clone those people out and you got a winner. Probably no more than 5 minutes to do all of that and I think you'll be really pleased.

Welcome back man, get your shovel ready!

Thanks plant. Yeah, it's hard to put the camera down long enough to truly enjoy the beauty there.

Thanks for the tips, Scott. I'll do some work on #2. It was definitely one of my favorite shots of the trip. Stunning beauty there.

The best thing? My keeper rate was MUCH higher than shooting a ball game!!! :D The landscapes don't move on me!

Thanks Rick. #6 was just about perfect early morning light on everything. And didn't you live in HI at some time in your life? Thought I remember reading that somewhere. If not, that's ok too. Great place to visit if you ever get the oppty.

LOL! No kidding, and don't forget, no vapor lighting either! Well done man. Hope that maybe we still cross paths here at some point.
