I couldnot wait, so I need to tell everyone that I purchased this lens brand new from Adorama ($359 shipped). This lens is unbeliebable good. I have used the 85/1.8 in other brands during the years, but this lens is the best. I used it with the 5D Mark II. I will post photos taken with it later on.;):)

It's not a photo until you print it!

Congrats on the purchase Pepe - I've been using mine with a 5Dc for a number of years and have been very pleased with it.

That f/1.8 can give you a razor thin DOF when you are close to the subject, and I've "de-optimized" a number of "could-have-been" sharp images because of that  But when you are steady and nobody moves out of the focus plane, the results are beautiful Enjoy! - Stu

One of the first lenses I bought when I switched to Canon, results are indeed unbelievably good for such a low price lens.

Love mine, it's my go to lens when it comes to portraits.

Good luck with yours :)

As a new member this is my first post here!
I bought a used canon 85 f/1.8 yesterday and i found there is no serial number on the box similar to the one on the back of the lens. is it normal? has any one such an experience before?

Hello Ahmad and welcome to POTN. I haven't had that experience myself, but I don't think it should be a problem since it's just a box. The seller probably wanted to provide some "nice" packaging. I would be concerned though if the serial number on the lens itself had been tampered with, modified or removed. That would be cause for concern.

Some owners don't have their boxes anymore and somehow obtained another box for resale. It really doesn't matter at all... I mean it's just cardboard right?

What 85mm 1.8 did you use before this?

I have always heard good things from this lens never tried it yet.

It's a good lens, but not without an obvious fault - CA on out of focus highlights (I think what the optical experts call LOCA). In the wrong situations it's pretty awful giving ugly green and purple fringing around any bright highlights. Don't try taking a shot with lots of chrome in sunlight!

I must be lucky with my copy then - have not yet seen those characteristics. It's a wonderful, compact, sharp, lightweight and bright lens for the price; one of the best non-L lenses around.

I have been fortunate as well. I have also read, never needed it myself, that most processing software can eliminate CA with a touch of a button.
