I have a friend that is going on a cruise to Alaska and wants a new camera. Would you recommend this camera for a limited budget? Will be used for on ship group stuff and telephoto pics if the opportunity arises.

I though this might fill the bill since it is cheaper that the 50sx.

A camera didn't make a great picture anymore than a typewriter wrote a great novel.

Prices on them have dropped since the SX50 so Yes indeed that would be a great travel camera.
Remember to get a extra battery or 2 though.

Thanks for the responses. I did recommend it as Amazon had it for $299 and he did order it. Hope it will work out well for him. I even though about one for myself, but am beyond broke right now.:cry:
