See what these cameras are capable of:

Panasonic G3

Tempted to get one of these as a back-up street camera.

V1 has blazing AF and from what I hear a nice EVF
Buying the G3 would get you into the world of 4/3 for pretty cheap (new)

V1 (4.45 x 2.99 x 1.71")
G3 (4.53 x 3.31 x 1.85")

Being an early adopter of the V1, those prices make me sick. And yes, the AF is very fast, and the EVF quite usable.

I'm a lot more interested in a V1 now that the new 18.5mm f1.8 is out.

How do you like the V1? My sister is considering the EOS-M for her husband, but I saw this and figured it'd a be a fantastic budget camera for a novice trying to get great photos and videos of their daughter.

I'm a big fan of the V1. In daylight it's AF is as fast, or faster, than my dslr. Combine that with the fast frame rate and I think it would be a good choice for fast moving kids. One of the main factors for me when I was shopping for something smaller was the inclusion of an EVF. I have always used a viewfinder and never liked using the rear LCD for shooting.

I want one of these two, but I'm not sure which one I want. Leaning V1 for the better AF, but there are a lot more 4/3's lenses out there.

This was on page #3. So I thought I'd bump it for those that didn't see the thread that might be interested.

I wound up order the G3 and it should be here on Thursday. Looks like it will be a pretty good travel camera when I don't want to carry everything with me.

1saleaday.com has the v1 kit for $250 today. Pretty tempting at that price.

Thanks for sharing!!

That's a ridiculous price! Extremely tempting.

S/H is only $4.99. Do they charge tax to California residents? EDIT: They're "Headquartered in Miami Florida" so there should be no tax for me unless they have some kind of facility in Cali.

Even if they charge tax and it's $275 out the door, is that not a killer deal? :)

Not knowing much about the V1, at $250, is it a good "in pocket" camera for times when lugging the DSLR around is undesirable?

Can it even fit in a pocket? I have the old Canon G2, is it similar size?

It's a decent mirrorless, but the CX sensor size is on the small side. My sister just picked it up for her husband, but they're coming from Point and Shoot cameras, so this is a big upgrade in that regard.

For $250, though, it's a great pocket camera with better than P&S IQ.
