Canon ELPH300 lens cover broken

I bought this in August of 2011 so I guess the warranty is out.

The lens cover will not close all the way so dust and debris will enter eventually. Repair would be cost prohibitive correct?

Is there a decent workaround? Good cover plus cleaning to add some life to the camera?

It's probably just the metal framing over the lens shutter mechanism that's gotten pushed in. Get a thin strip of something stiff (plastic, metal) and gently pry it out a bit. Should close up again when you next power down. I've done this a few times on my SX230.
