I may have asked this before
but I am after the bracket for the twin flash heads (see attached)

I have an alternative bracket from eBay (sort of a double gorilla grip set up (external link)) but at times its cumbersome.

So..

if you know where I can get a replacement, or your MT24EX flash is broken and you want to sell the bracket component, let me know

I am sure you could just order it from Canon's parts department.

My memory is there is an assembly diagram for the flash available on the web somewhere, I'll look for it. That would give you the part number, but canon parts may be able to help you without that just using a description.

Thanks Lester. Unfortunately Canon do have the parts (see attached) , but there are a lot and they weren't willing to assemble them for me. Honestly, looking at the breakdown, I am not sure anyone else want to try

Are right, I can that being a problem if you were not into mecharno as a boy! :)

I can't see anyone selling the bracket, even if the flash has gone duff, too useful as a spare.

That leaves you with get the bits and some DIY or get some kind of 3rd party solution.

That would be a wee dram o' the hard stuff, to steady the nerves before the operation. ;)

I think they are worried about how easy it would be to duplicate an mt-24 setup. The diagram really doesn't look that bad unless you have bad eye site and shaky hands. You would first do a parts inventory and begin assembly of 6 processes with a maximum of 4 sub steps, doesn't seem bad. If you don't mind me asking what are they charging for these brackets?

Buying all those individual parts seems expensive. I looked around and can't find that part either. Why not grab an off the shelf product that people use when they want to get away from using that piece?

I have the second suggestion. Both have their limitation in that they do not move with the lens. So when you zoom, you have to adjust the flashes. I know it's not a big issue but if I am shooting a bug from 2x to 5x, it will be gone by the time I adjust the flashes.

Sorry for waking up an 'older' thread. Found this tread while doing a google search. I was actually thinking of trying to incorporate the mt-24ex's ring for a DIY macro set-up I'm thinking of building. Cannot find that part anywhere for sale, Canon sure makes things hard on their owners. Got two questions, 1) does the ring hold the mt-24ex's twin flashes via hot-shoes (looks like it), and 2) how much did Canon quote you for the list of parts?

I guess I can find the later out myself, but I'm really curious if I can attach two 270EX ii on the twin-lite ring...then I can have a much cheaper version of the twin-lite system...if not I'll stick with my wimberley brackets, just trying to save weight when photographing salamanders.

I think they are smaller. But I believe there was a 1/4-20 thread in the base. I'll check tonight when I get home.

If used with the MP-E you might not be able to tilt the 270EX in enough when shooting at 5:1. With the MT-24EX at 5:1 the heads are almost turned all the way in.

I'm in the same boat as pelooyen. I just got off of the phone with Canon parts in Jamesburg, NJ.
They were not very helpful. I explained my situation, that I needed the complete assembly and that I knew it was a collection of 25+ parts that I would have to assemble myself. At first she tried to talk me out of it, I asked her if she had another option then. No she didn't. Then I asked for a estimate on the parts needed. She said it would take at least 15 mins to put it together, I said I would hold. She got back on the line a few mins later and said it would take awhile and that she didn't really have the time to do it. I asked for an email address that I could send my parts request to, she gave me one. I'm not sure if I will get the answer I'm looking for though.

The frustrating thing is that I used to work for Canon UK as a tech. They had a room with cameras , lenses and speedlites in various states of disrepair. I know if I could get a hold of a tech that they would have the part.

Let me know when you find out, if they are smaller my whole idea needs to be revised. Thanks!

I usually always shoot at 1:1 with the canon 100mm f/2.8 macro. Fits almost all my subjects perfectly.

Well, I just called canon parts and they said the parts have been discontinued. Which means, a) dude totally did not know what I meant, or b) they have stopped production of the mt-24ex. Either way, I'm out of luck until I find someone with a broken unit that is willing to spare the ring mount.

However, if the ring mount is too small for hot-shoes it isn't worth my energy.
