While I am a natural-light, outdoor photographer, my sister-in-law is a studio photographer and was nice enough to let me borrow some of her equipment the day before yesterday to do 9 month portraits of my younger daughter (some of you may remember her from a photo I posted about 6 months ago, with her tongue sticking out). These two are my favorites, and like the title of this thread implies this is my first time ever using studio lighting or backdrops, etc.

Please let me know what you guys think, any pointers, etc. as I realize my opinions of these photos are biased since, well, she's my daughter! So of course I think they're great haha.

Could you have edited out the red areas on the baby's right eye?

Also, just my thing, but the watermark is somewhat distracting....

The only reason I have the watermark on it is because I found some of my photos on another site, without my permission, and the only place I have ever posted without a WM has been on here and on Facebook so it's gotta stay for now unfortunately :(

I could get the red out, I suppose. The color one was more of a quick edit. She had pink eye and her whole eye swelled shut, poor girl.

The grey background completely washes out the poor babe, making her look on the blue side? The light isn't hitting her face evenly to me?

you're a great friend, but if Zombies chase us, I am tripping you.

Ya, that is why I switched from the gray background to the black. I can post the 1st photo in color if you would like to see. Honestly I hate tie dyed backdrops like this. I prefer patterns or solid color, it was just the one that was already on the stand when I got to my sister-in-law's house so I figured I'd give it a shot. They just remind me of school photos.... bleh.

You need to take a look at the catch lights in the eyes.

If you have the chance to remove them it may improve some what
