Not surprised NY Post would run this, but let's talk about the photographer. He claims he was firing off his flash to warn the train operator.

Right, that's why it's perfectly framed.

What do you think? What would you have done in that situation?

Maybe it's perfectly framed because he cropped it or the photo editor did. Surely the photographer didn't plan the shot so as to leave space to accommodate the lines of type.

I know too little about the physical situation to say what I would have done. Yelled, maybe?

everyone who saw the copy and could have stopped it before it went out should be fired. im sure this guys kids enjoyed seeing his last horrifying moments blown up in the paper. i dont know about the photog because there could have been circumstances not clearly evident in the picture but my gut says he should be kicked in the crotch by every member of the guys family on the first and third Friday in odd months.

1. Don't think it was necessary to embed the image here--a link would have sufficed. That's pretty morbid stuff.
2. There's a reason lots of people think photographers are scum of the earth, and this is the perfect example. That "photographer" should be fined or jailed if you ask me. On top of doing nothing to help the victim (which is quite evident) he immediately sold his image to a tabloid. I've been to NYC, and you don't carry around a DSLR in plain sight in those stations--he had the 5-10 seconds necessary to take out his camera, focus, snap the shot, but not help the guy? We absolutely need to implement that fictional law used to put Jerry Seinfeld in jail.

This image was taken seconds before the train hit this man. He was pushed onto the tracks by another person and could not get back onto the platform.

just a few of my thoughts...

Bummer. I would have forgotten about the shot and tried to pull that guy out of the way. I can't tell what line that was on, or what the stop is but a lot of those trains stop to pick up/left off people, which should have given someone time to help the guy. If he wanted to take photos, shoot the jerks that pushed him off the platform. I know when I waited for trains I always hung back near the middle of the platform, for worry someone might push me off.

Everybody wants to cruicify the photographer...but here is my question...why don't I dont see another dang person on that platform trying to help this guy get up...so who is at fault...only the photographer, or the other folks who apparently also witnessed the incident and didnt do a dang thing to help...here's betting there will be a few smart phones videos showing up on youtube within a short time of the whole episode...

you are right, there are probably others at fault, not the least of which is the person who pushed him. but apparently there is only one profiting by selling photos of the incident to the Post.

Everyone is so quick to form an opinion based on what he/she has heard. If you weren't there, you simply cannot say with any certainty what you would have done - period.

First of all, we don't know how far away this photographer was from the victim. Too far to help? Maybe.

Second, if you were there and tried to help, there's a good chance you could be dead, too. If you grabbed him and weren't able to pull him up in time, I'm sure he would NOT have let go of you and you probably would have been pulled into the path of the train right with him. Emergency personnel have to make these kinds of decisions quite frequently.

Now, don't get me wrong, I am disgusted that this guy took photos of this. But, to hang him for not helping? That seems a little harsh, especially without knowing all of the facts.
