Hi all,
Here's another set of recent SX50 shots taken at various distances. All were taken hand-held at or near maximum optical zoom (~1200mm), and all have also been cropped.
Cedar Waxwing @50ft ISO160 1/100
Northern Cardinal @45ft ISO160 1/320
Mourning Dove @35ft ISO 160 1/50
Eurasian Tree Sparrow @30ft ISO100 1/320
House Finch @16ft ISO160 1/320
Pine Siskin @12ft ISO160 1/160
Eastern Bluebird @10ft ISO160 1/160 [100% crop]
Mourning Dove @8ft ISO100 1/160 [100% crop]
Low ISOs are critical to capturing clean detail with these small sensors, and even in reasonably good daylight shutters will usually have to be quite slow. The lens-based image stabilization is remarkably good though, making hand-held shots doable even at 1200mm despite the slow shutter speeds.
