Hi all,

Here's another set of recent SX50 shots taken at various distances. All were taken hand-held at or near maximum optical zoom (~1200mm), and all have also been cropped.

Cedar Waxwing @50ft ISO160 1/100

Low ISOs are critical to capturing clean detail with these small sensors, and even in reasonably good daylight shutters will usually have to be quite slow. The lens-based image stabilization is remarkably good though, making hand-held shots doable even at 1200mm despite the slow shutter speeds.

We hope you enjoy these,

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Very very nice, Kenn! I am surprised the bluebird and especially the dove let you get so close!

Hi Kenn... as usual, excellent shots and detailed close ups... the robins ate up all the mountain ash berries on their way through, so the waxwings will be few here this winter. Always good to see your Bluebirds....... :)
