Hey guys,

What would be the best book to get about off camera flash?

I'm new to off camera flash, but not new to photography. I've a pretty good understanding of exposure and have read Bryan Peterson's understanding exposure.

I'm looking for a book focused (exclusively?) on flash photography, and mostly on off camera flash. Any recommendation? Thx

I did actually browsed that book before. Not bad, but it felt quite focused on the technique and not so much of the creative use of light.

I've been inspired by Bryan Peterson "you keep shooting" videos (e.g. http://www.youtube.com …dex=41&feature=plpp_video (external link)), and I like how he's teaching you how to think creative and that sparks plenty of shooting ideas in me.

Any book that would highlight that creative use of ocf?

I'm currently reading this book Sketching Light - Joe McNally (external link), and so far finding it quite interesting. I also find his previous book The Hot Shoe Diaries (external link) quite insightful.

I also enjoy this one! :D Sketching light is good too. I didnt much care for Syl's book. Too many "If you have 200 speedlights, you can do this" stuff. Its a good book, dont get me wrong, but I feel Neil has a better approach and teaching style.

Does it have to be a book? Zack Arias's "One Light Workshop" is a very good DVD, and his Creativelive workshops are also excellent.

+1 for this

The Strobist DVD's from David Hobby are pretty good to.

It doesn't have to be a book. DVD is a good idea too.

I've checked these two and the price is stiff: $150 and $139 respectively. That's 5 times as much as the books mentioned. Out of my budget.

If you are a visual learner - these DVDs really get the job done - this is how I learned, and the not so expensive (free) Strobist Lighting 101 series can do the trick as well: http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/03/lighting-101.html (external link)
