Here's a link to Peter Read Miller's (Sports Illustrated) Custom Function (external link) settings for the 1D4. They should get you pointed in the right direction.

Hey fella,

Great choice and one you wont regret - just take your time with the settings and start saving for good glass as that is really what makes the mk4. 70-200 2.8 mk2 is simply outstanding and with the mkIII 2x extender it is my main 'tool' for trackside motorsport work (didn't use the 100-400 again and it got sold on) looking at the 300 2.8 mk2 at this very moment as well

Like you I was a long term Sony user moving up from a350 > a700 > a900 and then moving to the Canon system with the 7D and then the 1D mk4 last December.

Look forward to seeing the results.

.DAVID.

Dave you sure were not twins seperated at birth ???.

I started witha Minolta3xi, 5xi, 7xi, Sony a350, then a700,....nearly went to a900....but defected to Canon,..
7D & 100-400 have been my main motorsport action lens, great but light hungy n slow really..
Tried a 70-200 IS mk1 ,...loved the bright VF...been deciding on Glass upgrade or body upgrade..
A really nice pre-loved 300f2.8IS came up ,,,bought it.
The a few days later a near new immaculate 70-200 IS VII came up significantly below RRP,..so I bit the bullet.
Now same with 1D4....no more camera gear for a while now ,....
Im just bustin to shoot something neat with the big lens...also got a S/H 1.4 III ...lucky but wish it wasnt all at once....
