I am tempted as well. Reviews seem to be all over the place though. Wonder how this compares optically to for example the 24-105 - apart from the stop difference - or the new Tamron 24-70 VC.

Seriously, how did you find the link? I went to the adorama home page and searched for this sigma but the special 699 price is nowhere to be found. The price there is the regular 824.

You can't find it through a regular link.

Try going through a link on a price comparison site like cpw:

This lens is amazing. I liked it on my 5DII but it is RIDICULOUS on my 5DIII. It focuses fast enough to keep up with my toddler running this way and that and very very very rarely misses, even in iso3200 1/160th F2.8 light. Its very very sharp at 2.8. I can obviously only compare it at 70mm, but its pretty much negligible in comparison to my 70-200L ISII in the center. The corners are noticeably softer than my sigma 50 1.4 and 70-200 however. Overall, for the price, its an amazing piece of glass.

$824 must have been an error.

It compares quite favourably, in fact at f/5.6 or above images are sharper and clearer than my 24-105 sooc. It is like most large aperture lenses, a bit soft at f/2.8 but still quite useable. Mine has had no focus issues and did not require any MFA.

Its funny you say this. On my 5DII, I thought this lens was ok at 2.8. On the 5DIII, I find it incredible. Im not sure why it would be different, but its quite a difference.

Since the glass is the same, So you are saying the 5diii focusing much more accurate than the 5dmkii ?

Any experience with Canon 24-70 that you care to compare ?

Funny you should say that haha. I have heard a lot of people say that their lenses just seem to "come alive" when jumping from the 5D2 to the 5D3. I have resisted going to the mark 3 because I love my mark 2, but as time goes by I think about upgrading more and more for the reason you mention, plus better high ISO performance.
