So I spend a lot of my spare time chasing trains, if I am not chasing birds, although sometimes I am lucky and get both on the same outing. Here are some train shots from my area over the last few months...

Unusually, a UP GE at the head of a BNSF train eastward through the canyon. The conductor told me that the controls were different than their BNSF units and they didn't know the ditch lights were out until they entered the tunnel.

between my grandfather, an uncle and my dad theres about 130 years of Grand Trunk Western railroad service given...

how did you manage to talk to the conductor of 7616?

were most of those 'over the road' shots taken along hwy 20 or 49 heading up into the sierras? never thought to stop and enjoy the trains when i lived in marysville...

My grandfather was a switchman on the Frisco and family got free passes to go anyplace they went. Very long time ago, like in the very early 50s. I enjoy seeing freight trains and their engines.

Thanks all, glad you liked them. I guess I never grew out of getting a thrill when a big train passes by.

Ltdave, the pics from the Sierras were taken right off of 80,within a few miles of Truckee. The others (except Roseville) were all taken within a few miles of my house in the bay area. I'm lucky that we have two major carriers, plus Amtrak and the short lines here to follow around.

Beautiful shots, always love the trains.

Have you considered posted in the "Post your best train shots" thread? Many great shots there, and these great ones would be a big hit.

Leon

My dad worked in the Pennsylvania Railroad shops here in Altoona, Pa and when I was a child (late 50's), we used to travel using his employee pass all the time.

Great pics, thanks for sharing!!
