i currently assess my photography skills to be in the intermediate range, and i'm more of a generalist (shot weddings/portraits/automobiles/concerts/food/travel/events) rather than a specialist.

before you judge too quickly, i actually spend way more time shooting than lurking around on forums and obsessing over gear and stuff. having shot so much, i feel like i have hit a plateau right now. i want to further refine my craft and go in-depth to the specifics of each photography genre that I have shot before.

hence, i'm looking for advanced instructional videos for semi-pros to pros. other than the usual producers from kelby/lynda, do you guys have any names/titles to recommend for such stuff? one such example for portraits is peter hurley - i never knew there was so much to look out for in headshots till i went through his course.

looking for similar titles that can give me that extra edge and knowledge. all suggestions welcome! :)

Doug Gardner's PBS series, "Wild Photo Adventures" offers a lot of adventure, along with some instruction. . Watching a few episodes may be helpful, if you shoot wildlife at all.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I have some of Ed Pierce's stuff and its great. He's also done some of those inexpensive seminars that go on tour each year. He's part of a larger group at http://www.photovisionvideo.com …speaker-info-2/ed-pierce/ (external link)

Most of their videos are excellent and they are real working pros that are showing you how they do what they do. Ed's Lightroom training really helped me see how to use it properly. He walked through two mock pro settings... a portrait session, and a wedding... and demonstrated the workflow each way.

Monte Zucker for wedding photography. Although a giant in his time, he was extremely old-school and contemptuous of the photojournalistic-style.

looking good guys. keep the names coming! my current interests are in portraits/food/travel ( which is probably a mix of all the skills..), not so much of workflow as i've already established my own and it's working very well for me now.

thanks!

I was wondering that, too.

One thing I would suggest is that you go to the "Parent" sub-forum for the photography talk sections, the "Talk About Photography sub-forum:

https://photography-on-the.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=110

Note that there are sections for discussion most of your "major" photography "themes", although some themes would be a sub-set of the "main" themes. Food photography, for example, a sub-set of the "Still Life, B&W & Experimental Talk" section.

In each of these themes, there are people with real expertise who can give you good recommendations for that particular field, and also who can be very helpful in discussing particular issues and answering questions!

yup i know about that. i was just wondering if it would be appropriate to post a similar topic in every sub-section. afaik, most moderators aren't happy about it (and would rather that i just post 1 to save bandwidth). lol.
