What's Your Picture Setting?

Just curious what everyone's most commonly used picture setting is. I've installed Technicolor Cinestyle and Marvel Cine Style and been experimenting with the too. I've also been reading "DSLR Cinema: Crafting the Film Look with Video" and found the exposure chapters interesting.

I'll be shooting my first wedding on January 5th, using a pair of 5D Mark II's and I'm still debating what picture style to utilize. Does the use of Picture style vary greatly depending on the setting? Or do many people just run with one of the Cine Styles and handle everything in post? For my first DSLR shoot and a beginner at color grading, would it be best if I shoot with Standard and try to concern myself more with the actual shots/sound/and editing (not worrying too much about picture style at this point)?

While Cinestyle does give much greater latitude with exposure see here (external link) it can be difficult to get it back to a point where it doesn't look washed out without introducing colour artifacts. Skin tones particularly can be difficult so I would advise caution when shooting a wedding.

Neutral is probably a safer option.

I've spoken to a an amateur film making friend about this and his advice is use a Neutral picture style with the contrast turned all the way down, the sharpness almost all the way down (+1 from the far left hand side) and the colour down a couple of notches.

I tried the Marvel one myself and I thought everything looked a little weird.

I watched Rob Adams Wedding Cinematography on Creative Live the last few days and i'm pretty sure that's exactly what he said he does as well.

Rob Adams basically uses ProLost with a very small tweak in saturation. I've tried Cinestyle (which I didn't really like), The Lightform N and C profiles (very good but some banding in skies and highlight areas), Cinema, and the VisionColor and VisionTech profiles which I'm liking best for now. Those last two hold skin tones well and highlight detail.

im not a big fan of trying to copy results people get from their own personal picture profiles. its fun to mess around and see what other people are doing.

i really prefer to just shoot neutral and color correct in premiere or speed grade based on what i want that project to look like
