So, it wasn't enough that I had to go to Canon in Joisey a month or so ago after dropping my camera.

Today, I whip it out to take some shots, and the "lock" button on my
70-300 DO IS is broken, stuck, frozen, unmoveable. I was finally able to zoom and unzoom the lens, but the button is just stuck in the lock position and the lens is not operating smoothly at all.

Do you think I'm PO'd? Uh, Yeah. And this lens was not on the camera when it fell. The one that was works perfectly.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Truth be told, I think I may be at fault. Whenever I use this lens, I tend to forget that I set the lock, and then zoom it. It just clicks past the lock and works. Must have finally broken it. Drats.

Sorry to hear that. Looks like another trip to Canon service for you. I use the lock feature on my 70300IS (non-DO) a lot and I have to remind myself of it often.

Thanks. Don't know if I'll go there or mail it in. I'll call them in the morning. Good think I still have the original packing. And the only reason I kept that was so I could post in "show your boxes.":)

When I brought my camera in, it was fixed in about seven business days if I remember correctly, though it seemed like seven years.

I've snapped past the DO zoom lock a couple of times myself. Haven't broken it, but I will be more careful in the future. Odds are that some little plastic tab or latch got messed up in yours.

BTW, how does it perform on your 1Ds II?

I autherized the NJ shop to fix my 24-70L last week, when I get mine back I'll let you know how it is performing. I'd love to have my lens back next week. I don't think out of towners get the 7-day turn around :)

Hey, Ron, old buddy (I should say young buddy as I'm old enough to be your father) where, oh, where is Waverly, N.Y.? Maybe we can meet one day. I'd be glad to let you use whatever piece of my gear you want.:D

This may seem offtopic, but I developed a habit of setting my lens to MF when either storing the lens or even while its on the cam but no in use. The reason is that the 50 1.8 II is not FTM focus. So manually focusing it while in AF mode will break the motor from the inside. Get into the habit of checking for such stuff. ISO is a good one to check too. Aperture if you are the kind to shoot in Av mode.
