Folks, need an advice. I'm about to buy a filter for my 28-300 and was wondering which one will be better suited:

Any help is appreciated.

You don't need the slim one on that lens but since the price isn't that much more you might wanna invest in the slim type for any future wide angle below 17mm that might require the thin one.

Bad thing about that one is it doesn't have the front threads so a standard lens cap won't fit. Another reason I prefer Hoya. B&W makes one that does buts it cost a bit more.

You talking about just the Slim not having the front threads?? Not the standard, I hope!

From the description: B&W slim filters are for wide-angle lenses. They do not have a front thread.
The standard filter doesn't say anything about not having front threading, and my 58mm does have front threading.

But, included with the filter, is a snap on filter cap.... Yah, snap-ons can snap-off too easy, but at least they give you something!!

Just slightly OT and not an answer. I used to buy nothing but B&W multicoated filters. I got one every time I bought a lens. Then, after reading many posts here, and knowing I'm usually careful with my stuff, I stopped spending money on them and feel they are completely unnecessary. Just a thought. Not talking about CP filters or ND filters, obviously.

Yea I am only indicating the slim wide angle type. Seems B&W makes one with and one without the threads ...

Thank you. Interestingly enough I thought that I posted a reply to Bluedog_XT's original posting, but it dissappeared - not sure what happened there. I guess I'll go with the: B+W 77mm Circular Polarizer (MRC) Multi-Resistant Coating Glass Filter option (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...goryNavigation) (external link).

Thank you all for the helpful information and points of views.

Evidently for extra $20 I can get this: B+W 77mm Kaesemann Circular Polarizer Glass Filter. Anyone would recommend this Kaesemann option over the MRC? Thanks again.

May I ask why you are considering a Kaesemann?

jjonsalt, probably I wasn't clear in my post, but I have no idea what's this Kaesemann option is other what I read on the B&H site about being completely sealed, thus I asked if anyone would recommend it over MRC.

Looks like you guys are going through the same confusion I did!
Chancellor: I agree with Bulldog and don't think you'd need to go with the slim filter, unless you want it for future wide angle purchases.
Regarding some of the other issues raised, check out my thread if you're interested (it's rather long, so brace yourself).

And MacDonalds is every bit as good as Bubba's Diner (external link). Not.
